Rapid Alternating Pulse System (RAP)

In 2006, FloDesign Inc. was awarded a patent for a fluid nozzle system using self-propelling toroidal vortices for long-range jet impact. The Rapid Alternating Pulse System (RAP) is a novel, new device that transmits a fluid force, gas or fine particles over a great distance with minimal losses. It is comprised of three major components: a device to convert a continuous jet stream into jet pulses, multistage ejectors (with or without forced mixers) to amplify the pulses, and an orifice used to convert the pulses into toroidal vortices. The RAP nozzle has many possible applications, these applications include, but are not limited to: leaf blowers, underwater mine clearing, fire suppression, vortex entertainment systems and less-than-lethal weapons.
